The Senior Security Software Engineer EDR joins the Detection team within Apple Services Engineering to develop endpoint detection and response technology. This role involves transforming high-stakes problems into production software for internal servers and public-facing products, including Private Cloud Compute. You must possess proficiency in Python or Rust and C or C++, alongside deep knowledge of operating system internals like processes, threads, and system calls. Key technical skills include experience with eBPF, EndpointSecurity, Swift concurrency, and policy-driven detection logic. You will solve complex security problems by analyzing attacker behavior and host telemetry to protect systems against various threats.

What you'll do

Develop and maintain a Swift-based security agent for Linux and Apple operating systems.
Collect security telemetry and evaluate detections directly on host systems.
Implement automated response actions on hosts to mitigate security threats.
Translate vague, high-stakes security problems into functional production software.
Ensure high reliability and availability for software deployed across a large fleet of servers.
Build and support CI/CD and release tooling for staged rollouts and rollbacks.
Analyze host telemetry such as process, network, and file events to identify malicious activity.

What we're looking for

7+ years of professional experience building, shipping and supporting production software or system software.
Personal proficiency in at least one high-level or scripting language (Python or Rust) and at least one low-level systems language (C or C++).
Solid knowledge of operating system internals including processes, threads, memory, system calls, and namespaces for Linux, macOS, or both.
Credible understanding of attacker behavior, security concepts, and how malicious activity appears in host telemetry.
Experience building or operating endpoint, host, or agent software deployed at large scale (preferred).
Experience with eBPF, EndpointSecurity, or similar OS-level instrumentation (preferred).
Experience with Swift on server, concurrency in Swift, and cross-platform builds (preferred).
Experience with virtualization, hypervisor environments, and CI/CD release tooling for host software (preferred).
