The Senior Principal Robotics & AMR Automation Platforms Engineer joins the Automation Platforms team to serve as the enterprise technical authority for autonomous mobile robots, collaborative robots, and emerging intelligent automation technologies. This role involves defining technical strategies, roadmaps, and architectures while developing reusable platforms to improve safety and productivity across a global manufacturing network. The individual will build advanced systems integrating AMRs, cobots, machine vision, 3D perception, and fleet-management software. Key responsibilities include overseeing technology maturation from prototyping through factory validation, establishing governance for cybersecurity and reliability in regulated environments, and managing partnerships with suppliers and system integrators. Required expertise includes experience with autonomous navigation, force/torque sensing, and industrial controls. The role addresses the challenge of scaling automated material movement and flexible robotic solutions across diverse manufacturing sites and product families.
Serve as the enterprise technical authority for autonomous mobile robots, collaborative robots, and emerging intelligent automation technologies.
Define long-term technical visions, strategies, roadmaps, platform architectures, and standards for automated material movement and robotics.
Develop and mature reusable robotics platforms to reduce deployment costs and enable scalable replication across global manufacturing sites.
Architect complex robotic systems integrating machine vision, 3D perception, fleet management software, and industrial control infrastructure.
Lead technology development from initial feasibility and prototyping through factory validation and global deployment.
Establish governance and technical practices for safety, cybersecurity, and reliability in regulated manufacturing environments.
Manage relationships with external suppliers, system integrators, and research institutions to evaluate and integrate new technologies.
Establish and manage an Automation Platforms laboratory for prototyping, testing, and demonstrating robotics capabilities.
What we're looking for
A bachelor's degree is required with 10 years of experience, or an advanced degree with 8 years of experience.
10+ years of experience developing and deploying AMRs, cobots, industrial robots, or other advanced automation technologies in production manufacturing environments.
10+ years of experience developing reusable robotics platforms, architectures, standards, or solutions across multiple applications or sites.
Experience with AMR fleet management, autonomous navigation, facility assessment, and material-flow optimization.
Experience with advanced robotic manipulation including force/torque sensing, vision-guided robotics, and human-robot collaboration.
Knowledge of robotics safety standards and experience with cybersecurity, equipment validation, and lifecycle management in regulated environments.
Advanced degree in a related technical field such as robotics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or computer science (preferred).
Work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.
