TL;DR · Senior Principal Engineer, Thermal Controls Strategy and Architecture

The Senior Principal Engineer-Thermal Controls Strategy and Architecture joins the Thermal Engineering team to lead the architecture of thermal control systems across the PowerEdge portfolio. This role involves defining scalable solutions for air-cooled, liquid-cooled, and rack-scale platforms while leading the design of advanced thermal control algorithms to optimize cooling, power, performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. The successful candidate will drive thermal control strategies, shape technology roadmaps, and partner across firmware, platform, mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams. Key requirements include deep expertise in closed-loop controls, algorithm development, and systems engineering for complex computing or infrastructure systems. Desired skills include model-based engineering, simulation, automated validation, and AI-assisted engineering workflows to solve complex system-level problems and establish architectural best practices for server and infrastructure platforms.

What you'll do

  • Define the vision and architecture for next-generation thermal control systems across server and infrastructure platforms.
  • Lead the design of advanced thermal control algorithms to optimize cooling, power, performance, and energy efficiency.
  • Drive thermal control strategies for air-cooled, liquid-cooled, hybrid, and rack-scale architectures.
  • Shape future technology roadmaps for thermal management across multiple product generations.
  • Partner with firmware, platform, mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to deliver robust solutions.
  • Serve as a technical authority for thermal controls and lead complex system-level problem solving.
  • Establish architectural best practices for thermal controls across the organization.

What we're looking for

  • 15+ years of related experience or equivalent expertise in thermal controls, systems engineering, thermal management, or server platform development.
  • Deep expertise in thermal control architectures, closed-loop controls, and algorithm development for complex computing or infrastructure systems.
  • Proven ability to architect scalable thermal management solutions balancing cooling performance, power efficiency, reliability, and cost.
  • Experience driving thermal control strategies across air-cooled, liquid-cooled, hybrid, or rack-scale infrastructure platforms.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills to influence technical direction and partner across firmware, systems, mechanical, electrical, and platform engineering teams.
  • Experience with model-based engineering, simulation, automated validation, or AI-assisted engineering workflows for controls development (preferred).
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred).
