TL;DR · Senior Manager, Advanced Grid and Controls Solutions

The Senior Manager, Advanced Grid and Controls Solutions leads a multidisciplinary engineering team responsible for defining, evaluating, validating, and deploying advanced grid-integration and control solutions. This role involves managing a portfolio of projects across renewable, battery energy storage, hybrid, and microgrid applications. Key responsibilities include setting technical roadmaps, establishing repeatable engineering methods, and providing leadership during contract negotiations and project execution. The position requires expertise in grid-forming and grid-following inverter controls, plant power and energy-management systems, and advanced power-electronics applications. Candidates must utilize tools and methodologies such as PSCAD for electromagnetic-transient modeling, controller hardware-in-the-loop testing, and power hardware-in-the-loop testing. The work addresses complex technical problems including weak-grid performance, islanding, black start, and coordinated operation of multiple generation and storage resources to ensure reliable grid integration.

What you'll do

  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary engineering team focused on grid integration, advanced controls, and microgrid solutions.
  • Set the team’s technical roadmap, annual priorities, and operating model in alignment with business strategies.
  • Direct the development of control philosophies, functional requirements, and integrated plant-control architectures.
  • Oversee EMT studies and model-based designs using platforms like PSCAD to assess system stability and performance.
  • Define and manage hardware-in-the-loop (CHIL/PHIL) testing programs to validate controls before site deployment.
  • Provide technical leadership during contract negotiations and project execution for renewable and storage assets.
  • Support operations by diagnosing complex grid interactions and leading root-cause analysis for performance issues.
  • Translate grid codes and utility requirements into implementable equipment specifications and engineering standards.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, controls engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in power systems, controls, power electronics, or a related discipline (preferred).
  • Substantial engineering experience in utility-scale renewable generation, battery energy storage, inverter-based resources, plant controls, microgrids, or adjacent power-system applications.
  • Demonstrated people-management experience, including work planning, prioritization, coaching, performance management, and development of technical professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of renewable and battery energy storage plant controls, inverter controls, grid-forming technology, plant power controllers, energy-management systems, and grid-integration fundamentals.
  • Experience with technology evaluation, technical diligence, model review, test planning, results interpretation, and translation of findings into project or equipment decisions.
  • Working knowledge of EMT analysis and PSCAD-based studies; ability to review study methods, assumptions, model behavior, results, and tuning recommendations.
  • Work authorization.
