As a Software Engineer III within the Commercial and Investment Bank - Payments Technology team, you will design and deliver trusted, market-leading technology products. You will build high-volume, event-driven microservices and RESTful APIs to process payments for global clients across multiple clearing systems. Your daily responsibilities include developing Java and Spring Boot services, managing Kafka and MQ-based event flows, and ensuring system resiliency through idempotent message processing. You will utilize tools like Docker, Kubernetes, Maven, Jenkins, JUnit, and Mockito while leveraging enterprise-authorized AI coding assistants. Key technical requirements include experience with relational databases like Oracle, NoSQL stores, and CI/CD pipelines. You will solve complex business problems involving payment validations, routing, and exception handling while maintaining production stability in a secure, scalable environment.

What you'll do

  • Design, develop, and maintain Java/Spring Boot microservices and RESTful APIs for global payment processing.
  • Build high-volume, event-driven flows using Kafka and MQ-based messaging systems.
  • Translate business requirements into technical solutions for validations, routing, and exception handling.
  • Create secure production code featuring stateful workflows and idempotent message processing.
  • Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests while maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Produce architecture artifacts and ensure software code meets specific design constraints.
  • Troubleshoot and monitor payment flows in containerized, Kubernetes-based production environments.
  • Utilize AI coding tools to generate, refactor, and document code while validating outputs for security.

What we're looking for

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
  • Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
  • Hands-on programming experience with Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience designing RESTful APIs, including security, authentication, authorization, and documentation.
  • Experience with event-driven messaging platforms such as Kafka or IBM MQ.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., Oracle) and NoSQL data stores, including SQL and schema change management.
  • Experience with automated testing (TDD, JUnit, Mockito, BDD/Cucumber) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Maven, Jenkins).
  • Experience deploying and operating services using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools to generate, validate, and refine code and documentation.
  • Understanding of responsible AI use, agile practices, application resiliency, and security.
  • Exposure to payments or financial services technology (preferred).
  • Experience with event sourcing, state machine–based workflows, or high-throughput transaction processing (preferred).
  • Experience with gRPC and Protobuf (preferred).
  • Experience with Python for automation, internal tooling, or data analysis (preferred).
  • Experience with observability tooling (e.g., OpenTelemetry, Grafana) (preferred).
  • Familiarity with modern front-end technologies (e.g., JavaScript, HTML/CSS) (preferred).
