As a Senior GNC Engineer, you will join a multi-disciplinary team to lead the architecture selection, design, and implementation of Guidance, Navigation, and Control sub-systems for autonomous robotic platforms. You will develop real-time embedded software using an RTOS, create hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop test fixtures, and perform root cause analyses for vehicle anomalies. The role involves integrating third-party technologies and developing modeling capabilities to validate GNC algorithms. Key technical requirements include extensive experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and high-assurance safety-critical GNC software involving cascading and adaptive controls. Preferred skills include C/C++ programming, familiarity with communication protocols like CAN or Ethernet, and experience with open-source control software such as PX4 or ROS. This role specifically addresses the technical challenges of seabed exploration by developing autonomous underwater vehicles capable of operating in full-ocean-depth environments.
Lead the architecture selection, design, and implementation for Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) sub-systems.
Develop real-time embedded software using a Real-Time Operating System (RTOS).
Create test and simulation fixtures for both software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing.
Build modeling and simulation capabilities to capture, update, and validate data during the testing process.
Analyze test data from control systems to verify vehicle performance and debug GNC algorithm behavior.
Perform root cause analyses for vehicle anomalies or incidents related to GNC responsibilities.
Integrate technology from third-party vendors, research partners, and internal product teams.
Support the manufacturing and deployment of autonomous underwater vehicles.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience).
At least 6 years of experience developing high assurance safety critical GNC software, including cascading controls, adaptive controls, and transfer functions.
Systems programming skills including algorithms, data structures, concurrency, and optimization.
Extensive experience with MATLAB and Simulink.
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Familiarity with communication buses and protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, and others (preferred).
Experience writing C and/or C++ (preferred).
Experience with RTOS, DO-178 certifications, or open source control software like PX4, ArduPilot, or ROS (preferred).
