Senior Engineer, Core MySQL, Database Platform

What you'll do

• Build and maintain custom software and automation to operate MySQL at scale.
• Manage virtual machines, configuration, and performance tuning for the database fleet.
• Own the software powering connection management, backups, and failover machinery.
• Plan and execute changes to critical systems where correctness is the primary priority.
• Perform capacity planning and resiliency testing for stateful systems.
• Participate in a shared on-call rotation for the database platform.
• Implement performance, cost, and resiliency improvements for the data layer.

What we're looking for

• Solid grounding in infrastructure and large-scale distributed systems with real production ownership.
• Genuine software engineering ability to write and maintain real code rather than just scripts.
• Hands-on operational experience with stateful systems including configuration, performance tuning, capacity planning, and incident response.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a demonstrated instinct for de-risking changes to critical systems.
• Comfort carrying a pager for critical infrastructure and the judgment to act or escalate appropriately.
• Effective use of AI tooling to accelerate work and cover gaps.
• Deep MySQL experience including internals, replication, backup, restore, proxying, and routing layers (preferred).
• Experience with Zookeeper, Google Cloud Platform, or operating a large database fleet at scale (preferred).
