Senior Embedded Engineer
As part of the AV Labs Hardware team, the Senior Embedded Engineer will develop critical firmware and low-level device drivers for automotive-grade components and autonomous vehicle sensors including LiDAR, radar, and cameras. The role involves managing the transition to production by leading board bring-up, hardware validation, and software deployment for custom in-house computing platforms. Key responsibilities include collaborating on hardware-software co-design, performing schematic reviews, and troubleshooting complex systems using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. The candidate must possess expertise in C/C++, RTOS or Embedded Linux environments, and standard automotive interfaces like CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, and PCIe. This role addresses the challenge of unlocking long-tail driving data for autonomous vehicles by ensuring reliable sensor data pipelines and timing synchronization across vehicle networks to support high-fidelity data collection and shadow mode operations.
Design and maintain firmware and low-level device drivers for 3rd-party automotive components and AV sensors like LiDAR, radar, and cameras.
Execute board bring-up, hardware validation, and software deployment for custom, in-house designed autonomous computing platforms.
Partner with electrical and hardware teams to implement hardware-software interfaces and participate in schematic reviews.
Use oscilloscopes and logic analyzers to troubleshoot system-level issues and optimize sensor data pipelines.
Ensure strict timing and network synchronization across vehicle networks using protocols like CAN, Automotive Ethernet, and PTP.
Develop firmware for high-performance autonomous driving SoCs while optimizing data pipelines via GPUs, DSPs, and NPUs.
Mentor team members and establish best practices for embedded software architecture and code quality.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
5+ years of professional experience developing embedded software using modern C/C++ in RTOS or bare-metal environments.
Experience writing firmware and device drivers for automotive-grade components, SoCs, and autonomous vehicle sensors like LiDAR, radar, and cameras.
Proficiency with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Familiarity with standard automotive interfaces and vehicle networks including CAN/CAN-FD, Automotive Ethernet, FPD-Link/GMSL, PCIe, SPI, and I2C.
Experience contributing to embedded hardware systems from prototyping through production deployment in autonomous vehicle, robotics, or mission-critical automotive domains.
Experience collaborating with electrical engineers on custom board designs, schematic reviews, and component selection (preferred).
Knowledge of ISO 26262 standards, MISRA C/C++, PTP/gPTP, and high-performance AV compute platforms like NVIDIA DRIVE or Qualcomm Snapdragon Ride (preferred).
