TL;DR · Senior DFx Engineer, Mechanical & Fluid Systems

Senior DFx Engineer, Mechanical & Fluid Systems joins the Air Dominance & Strike Manufacturing Engineering team to drive design for manufacturability, assembly, and cost across mechanical, structural, thermal management, and fluid systems including fuel, hydraulics, and pneumatics. This role supports a portfolio of autonomous aircraft, cruise missiles, and loitering munitions by ensuring hardware is buildable and cost-effective. You will perform DFx analysis, lead DFM/DFA/DFC reviews, conduct DFMEAs, and evaluate contract manufacturers for machined components, fabrications, and composite structures. Key responsibilities include developing manufacturing standards for CNC machining, welding, brazing, and tube bending while collaborating with supply chain and quality teams to align production requirements. The role requires expertise in mechanical engineering, aerospace systems, and technical skills like GD&T, 3D model review, and cost-driver analysis to solve complex manufacturability challenges within the defense technology sector.

What you'll do

  • Execute DFx analysis for mechanical, structural, thermal, and fluid systems to improve manufacturability, assembly, and cost.
  • Lead DFM/DFA/DFC reviews at key design milestones to identify and mitigate producibility and cost risks.
  • Facilitate cross-functional DFMEAs to drive design changes, inspection strategies, and control plans.
  • Translate manufacturing constraints into actionable feedback for design engineers to balance performance with production feasibility.
  • Evaluate and qualify contract manufacturers by assessing their capabilities, process maturity, and cost competitiveness.
  • Conduct supplier audits and facility reviews to ensure partners can meet quality and production rate targets.
  • Develop should-cost models and identify design changes that reduce unit costs without compromising product quality.
  • Create and maintain DFx standards, scorecards, and toolkits to scale manufacturing knowledge across the organization.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, producibility engineering, or DFx for mechanical, thermal, or fluid systems.
  • Proficiency in mechanical manufacturing processes including CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding, brazing, and composite layup.
  • Experience leading DFM/DFA reviews and evaluating contract manufacturer capabilities and production readiness.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, 3D models, and assembly documentation for cost and manufacturability.
  • Understanding of cost drivers in mechanical and fluid systems with experience in should-cost modeling or analysis.
  • Must be a U.S. Person due to export control requirements.
  • Master's degree, aerospace production experience, and active U.S. Secret clearance with Full-Scope Polygraph (preferred).
