Senior Backend Engineer

What you'll do

• Design and implement backend features including GraphQL and RESTful APIs with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Build and evolve portfolio planning capabilities such as work item hierarchy, status rollup, and capacity planning.
• Optimize PostgreSQL performance at scale through query optimization, indexing, denormalization, and partitioning.
• Create proofs of concept for complex tasks while maintaining extensive automated test coverage.
• Mentor engineers and open source contributors through code reviews, pair programming, and technical feedback.
• Participate in on-call rotations to troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
• Integrate artificial intelligence into development workflows and feature sets.

What we're looking for

• Full stack experience with a current focus on backend development.
• Proficiency in Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Strong PostgreSQL skills including query optimization, indexing, denormalization, and partitioning at scale.
• Experience designing and evolving GraphQL and RESTful APIs with a focus on scalability and backward compatibility.
• Experience leading projects involving multiple engineers and mentoring others through code reviews and career development.
• Experience improving large automated test suites for performance and reliability.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for an asynchronous, distributed environment.
• Experience integrating artificial intelligence into development workflows (preferred); experience with Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, or Python (preferred).
