Senior Backend Engineer - NorthAm Risk

What you'll do

• Design and optimize technical solutions to ensure real-time risk assessments with sub-second latency.
• Develop robust backend systems using Java or Kotlin, focusing on Spring framework for high-volume transaction processing.
• Implement and refine machine learning models to prevent fraud and enable unique features like Instant ACH.
• Collaborate closely with data scientists and analysts to enhance risk infrastructure and reduce false positives.
• Ensure operational excellence by monitoring and maintaining the reliability of real-time monitoring systems.

What we're looking for

• 7+ years of experience with Java, Kotlin, or other JVM-based languages and deep knowledge of the Spring framework.
• Expertise in optimizing latency for real-time risk and fraud checks, ensuring p99 end-to-end latency under 1 second.
• Proficient in data handling with JDBC, database internals, query optimization, Kafka, Kafka Streams, or Apache Flink.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and designing scalable, resilient distributed systems.
• Strong focus on product and user experience, prioritizing work to fix pain points like false positives.
• Takes end-to-end ownership of projects from initial idea to monitoring in production.
