Senior Applied Researcher

What you'll do

• Architect and deploy LLM-powered systems for personalization and automation across Apple’s services.
• Lead research in large-scale representation learning, semantic modeling, and topic induction techniques.
• Develop taxonomies and embeddings to disentangle complex behaviors in high-dimensional data.
• Drive strategies for fine-tuning, evaluating, and optimizing LLMs for safe and efficient user experiences.
• Explore and implement advanced methods like parameter-efficient adaptation and active learning in production.
• Build prototypes and solutions that enable Apple to reason over large-scale text and behavioral signals.
• Mentor other researchers and contribute to Apple’s thought leadership in AI through publications and patents.

What we're looking for

• Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, Statistics, or equivalent industry experience.
• Expertise in deep learning and modern NLP, including transformer architectures.
• Experience with LLM model development, fine-tuning, instruction tuning, and prompt engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow for production deployment.
• Strong understanding of distributed data processing systems and large-scale experimentation.
• Proven ability to communicate technical outcomes and decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
