JOB TITLE: Senior Director, Applied Research
The Senior Director, Applied Research joins the AI Foundations team to lead a group of applied scientists in driving strategic research direction. This people manager role involves collaborating with Applied Science, Engineering, and Product leaders to deliver AI-powered products that transform how customers interact with their money. You will build AI foundation models through all phases of development, including design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation. The role requires leveraging a broad technology stack including Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and VectorDBs to extract insights from massive numeric and textual datasets. You will engage in high-impact applied research to push state-of-the-art AI developments into production, translating complex technical work into tangible business goals while managing long-running research agendas.
Lead and mentor a team of applied scientists to drive strategic research direction.
Build AI foundation models through all phases of development including design, training, and validation.
Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver AI-powered products and platforms for customers.
Conduct high-impact applied research to integrate the latest AI developments into customer experiences.
Utilize technologies like Pytorch, AWS Ultraclusters, and VectorDBs to analyze large volumes of data.
Represent the company as an external leader by collaborating with prominent faculty in the research community.
Translate complex technical work into tangible business goals for stakeholders.
What we're looking for
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields plus 6 years of experience in Applied Research.
M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields plus 8 years of experience in Applied Research.
At least 5 years of people leadership experience.
Hands-on experience developing AI foundation models and solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
Experience building large deep learning models for language, images, events, or graphs.
Expertise in training optimization, self-supervised learning, robustness, explainability, or RLHF.
Experience delivering libraries, platform-level code, or solution-level code to existing products.
Track record of first-author publications or projects improving machine learning ideas (preferred).
