As an RFIC Design Engineer on the Amazon Leo team, you will collaborate with cross-disciplinary internal teams and third-party suppliers to develop innovative product solutions for a low-earth orbit satellite constellation providing high-speed broadband connectivity. You will be responsible for the architectural definition, design, simulation, layout, and extracted simulation of transmit and receive front-ends, including data converters, LNAs, and PAs. Your daily work involves designing area and power-efficient RFIC chips with integrated PLLs, exploring mm-wave architectures like VCOs, mixers, and phase shifters, and performing RLC extraction for volume production. You will utilize tools such as EMX or HFSS to design on-chip inductors and baluns while developing test plans. Required expertise includes experience in advanced nodes, 4G/5G NR standards, and mixed-signal verification techniques using network analyzers and spectrum analyzers.
Define and implement transceivers and RFIC front-end models for satellite communication systems.
Lead the development of area and power-efficient RFIC chips from concept to production.
Explore architectures for mm-wave components including VCOs, mixers, LNAs, and PAs.
Design and simulate on-chip inductors, baluns, and power combiners using tools like EMX or HFSS.
Perform circuit layout, RLC extraction, and post-layout simulations to ensure production robustness.
Define analog/digital boundary requirements for circuit calibration, clock generation, and timing.
Develop specific bench and production test plans for all designed RF components.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of experience in mm-Wave/RFIC design, preferably in an advanced node (preferred).
Knowledge of current and upcoming RF standards in cellular (4G/5G NR), WiMAX, 802.11ad, microwave backhaul, or similar broadband wireless standards.
Master's degree in Electrical or Communications Engineering or a related field (preferred).
Experience with RF transceiver architecture for beamforming systems and integrated RF transceiver chipsets (preferred).
Experience with mm-wave circuit design/layout in FinFET, SOI, BiCMOS, and Bulk CMOS; analog circuit fundamentals; and mixed-signal verification (preferred).
Experience with RF test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and probe-stations (preferred).
