TL;DR · Quantum Team Hardware Engineering Technical Leader

The Quantum Team Hardware Engineering Technical Leader joins the Outshift Quantum Research team to support the physical realization of deployable quantum hardware platforms. You will architect and build multi-chassis, rack-level quantum systems designed for data centers, focusing on power distribution, grounding, electrical isolation, and thermal performance. Key responsibilities include integrating RF/microwave signal routing, fiber optic routing, and slack management while ensuring compliance with EIA-310, UL, CE, and IEC standards. You will unify disparate engineering outputs like precision control electronics and photonic routing into manufacturable rack architectures. Required skills include 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks, Creo, or Inventor, along with experience in high-density electro-mechanical or telecom rack deployment. This role solves the technical challenge of creating scalable, low-noise hardware for quantum networking and distributed quantum systems.

What you'll do

  • Architect multi-chassis, rack-level quantum systems tailored to specific customer and data center requirements.
  • Design rack-level power distribution systems including PDUs, UPS integration, grounding, and electrical isolation.
  • Optimize rack layouts for structural stability, thermal performance, serviceability, and low-noise operation.
  • Develop fiber optic routing, slack management, and connector strategies to minimize insertion loss.
  • Integrate RF/microwave signal routing and precision control electronics into cohesive, manufacturable architectures.
  • Establish assembly and test infrastructure to support the scaling of quantum hardware platform delivery.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) for customer facilities.
  • Produce engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly procedures based on design feedback and test findings.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree plus 12 years of related experience, Master's plus 8 years, or PhD plus 5 years of related experience.
  • 7+ years of experience designing, integrating, and deploying high-density electro-mechanical, optoelectronic, or telecom racks.
  • Experience with 3D CAD software like SolidWorks, Creo, or Inventor for rack layout design and cable management.
  • Experience with AC/DC power distribution, grounding schemes, safety isolation, and thermal/airflow management in enclosed racks.
  • Experience with standard optical telecommunication components, architecture, and designing or operating optical data center rack systems.
  • Experience defining and performing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) (preferred).
  • Experience reading and producing engineering drawings, schematics, and assembly procedures (preferred).
  • Exposure to quantum optics, quantum communication, or quantum networking hardware (preferred).
