As a Principal System Debug Engineer, you will lead the system-level debug of advanced microprocessors within complex customer applications and system design environments. You will serve as a critical technical bridge between internal silicon and software engineering teams and external OEM, ODM, and Hyperscaler customers. Your daily responsibilities include leading triage and root-cause analysis for issues involving CPU silicon, platform hardware, firmware, drivers, and OS/hypervisor interactions. You will drive early platform bring-up activities and develop advanced debug methodologies and tools to accelerate issue isolation. The role requires deep expertise in x86 architecture, high-speed I/O interfaces like PCIe and CXL, memory controllers, and power management. You will utilize hardware tools such as JTAG debuggers and oscilloscopes alongside software tools like GDB and WinDbg while utilizing Python, C, and C++ for automation.
Lead the triage and root-cause analysis of complex system-level issues involving CPU silicon, firmware, drivers, and OS interactions.
Drive early platform bring-up activities for next-generation CPUs in internal labs and at customer facilities.
Serve as the primary technical liaison to guide strategic customers through platform design and debug methodologies.
Partner with internal engineering teams to develop systemic fixes and influence future CPU architectures based on feedback.
Architect and develop advanced debug methodologies, scripts, and tools to accelerate issue isolation across hardware/software boundaries.
Lead technical task forces during critical customer escalations to provide executive updates and drive action plans.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Extensive experience in system-level debug of complex CPU issues across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries.
Deep knowledge of modern x86 CPU architectures including pipelines, cache coherency, memory controllers, and power management (preferred).
Expertise in high-speed I/O interfaces such as PCIe, CXL, DDR4/DDR5, Ethernet, USB, and low-speed buses (preferred).
Strong understanding of system software stacks including BIOS/UEFI, BMC/IPMI, Linux/Windows kernel internals, and hypervisors (preferred).
Solid grasp of platform hardware design including board schematics, PCB layout, power delivery networks, and signal integrity (preferred).
Proven track record using hardware tools like JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers along with software debuggers like GDB or WinDbg (preferred).
Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python, C, or C++ for automation and tool development (preferred).
