The Principal/ Senior Principal Cyber Systems Engineer joins the Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems team to perform System Security Engineering across all phases of a system’s acquisition and development lifecycle. Working within an interdisciplinary team, the individual will develop secure system architecture implementations based on DoD, NIST, CNSSI, and Risk Management Framework processes. Key responsibilities include verifying and validating system-level cybersecurity requirements, providing input for subsystem-level architectures to ensure seamless integration, and supporting ongoing authorization efforts through documentation and stakeholder coordination. The role requires expertise in risk assessment, secure architecture design, and mitigation strategies within embedded or cloud computing environments. Candidates must possess a STEM degree, relevant cybersecurity experience, and a DoD Secret clearance. Required technical skills include familiarity with Digital Engineering, agile methodologies, and U.S. Government Anti-Tamper processes to solve complex technical problems for advanced systems.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deliver secure system architecture implementations based on DoD, NIST, CNSSI, and RMF guidelines.
  • Verify and validate system-level cybersecurity requirements to support successful system sell-off.
  • Provide technical input for subsystem-level cybersecurity architectures to ensure seamless integration into system levels.
  • Support ongoing authorization efforts by briefing status and developing documentation with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve as a technical liaison providing subject matter expertise on program activities to internal and external teams.
  • Develop cybersecurity architectures within Digital Engineering environments using agile methodologies.
  • Implement anti-tamper processes and mitigation strategies for embedded and cloud computing environments.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 5+ years of cybersecurity experience, or Master’s with 3+ years, or PhD with 1+ year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM with 8+ years of cybersecurity experience, or Master’s with 6+ years, or PhD with 4+ years.
  • Familiarity with DoD System Security Engineering activities including risk assessment and secure architecture design.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Possess a DODD 8140.01 qualifying certification, such as CompTIA Security+ or CISSP, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for positions with government clearance.
  • Experience with RMF, System Security Plans, embedded/cloud environments, and Digital Engineering (preferred).
