TL;DR · Principal Architect, Reinforcement Learning (Physical AI)

The Principal Architect - Reinforcement Learning (Physical AI) joins the technology team to own the end-to-end learning system for Physical AI models. This role involves designing architectures for reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and foundation-model post-training pipelines to train perception, prediction, planning, and control policies for heavy machinery like excavators and haul trucks. You will formulate tasks as observations, actions, and rewards, while managing large-scale closed-loop training in simulation and sim-to-real transfer. Key technologies include Python, PyTorch, C++, CUDA, and NVIDIA Isaac Lab, Isaac Sim, and Omniverse. You will utilize PPO, SAC, GRPO, and offline RL to solve complex construction autonomy problems, ensuring learned policies meet safety, productivity, and machine health metrics while transforming research into repeatable engineering for machines operating in dynamic, real-world jobsites.

What you'll do

  • Design the end-to-end architecture for reinforcement learning and imitation learning pipelines to train physical AI models.
  • Formulate tasks as observations, actions, and rewards while selecting appropriate policy and model architectures.
  • Structure large-scale closed-loop training in simulation using GPU-parallel simulators and hybrid neural world models.
  • Develop and measure sim-to-real transfer strategies using domain randomization, system identification, and actuator modeling.
  • Design reward functions and metrics tied to productivity, safety, machine health, and operator-quality outcomes.
  • Establish methodologies for policy evaluation, regression testing, and safety-case verification before field deployment.
  • Set standards for experiment reproducibility, benchmark hygiene, and scalable training infrastructure.
  • Translate research into repeatable engineering solutions for autonomous construction equipment.

What we're looking for
