Principal Applied Researcher

What you'll do

• Lead research projects focused on the future of AI for developers.
• Transition research projects into production-ready products.
• Build and train state-of-the-art machine learning models.
• Manage large-scale ML experiments and model evaluations.
• Create new datasets from public code and internal Microsoft data.
• Apply and advance LLM approaches for software engineering, including RAG.
• Run experiments to iterate and improve AI projects on a large scale.

What we're looking for

• Doctorate in a relevant field OR Master's Degree with 3+ years of research experience OR Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of research experience.
• Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
• Doctorate in a relevant field with 3+ years of research experience OR Master's with 6+ years OR Bachelor's with 8+ years (preferred).
• Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor (preferred).
• Experience participating in a top conference in a relevant research domain (preferred).
• 2+ years of experience building machine learning and AI for production environments (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience developing and deploying live production systems as part of a product team (preferred).
• 3+ years of experience developing and deploying products from ideation to shipping (preferred).
