JOB TITLE: Principal AI/ML Engineer, AV ML Infra
The Principal AI/ML Engineer joins the AV ML Infra team to lead the development of infrastructure products that empower teams to perform machine learning and data science at scale. This role focuses on building scalable distributed computing and data processing solutions rather than applying models to specific tasks. You will design and implement cloud-based systems, manage technical projects from inception to completion, and mentor engineers. Key responsibilities include orchestrating ML workflows, managing inference pipelines, and optimizing large-scale training across cloud and on-prem resources. Required skills include proficiency in Python, C++, or Golang, experience with relational and NoSQL databases, and expertise in large-scale distributed systems. The work addresses the technical challenges of autonomous vehicle technology, specifically regarding AI validation, compute optimization, and data lineage.
Design and implement scalable distributed computing and data processing solutions using cloud technologies like GCP or Azure.
Lead the AV ML Infra team by defining long-term vision, execution strategies, and organizational structures.
Take full ownership of technical projects from inception to completion, including making major technical trade-offs.
Develop infrastructure products that enable large-scale machine learning and data science for various internal teams.
Manage and optimize large-scale ML training and inference across cloud and on-premise compute resources.
Orchestrate ML workflows while tracking data and model lineage across diverse infrastructures.
Conduct technical interviews, onboard new hires, and mentor engineers and interns to foster a growth culture.
Participate in team planning, code reviews, and design discussions to manage cross-functional project impacts.
What we're looking for
10+ years of experience, with a strong background in large-scale distributed systems preferred.
5+ years of experience leading and driving large-scale initiatives.
Proficiency in building scalable infrastructure on the cloud using Python, C++, Golang, or similar languages.
Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain systems at scale.
A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, or Amazon Web Services (preferred).
Experience with open-source orchestration platforms such as Kubeflow, Flyte, Airflow, etc. (preferred).
