The Power Control Systems Architect - Platform Architecture joins the team responsible for crafting next-generation power control systems across product lines. This role involves designing and evolving architectures to extend battery life and improve user experience while meeting device power and thermal constraints across multiple timescales. Key responsibilities include defining multi-year architectures, specifying classical, modern, and data-driven control algorithms, and guiding implementation from concept to embedded deployment. The architect will analyze real-world performance data to identify improvements, exploring predictive and machine-learning-informed power allocation. Required skills include proficiency in Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Bash, and Python, alongside expertise in Classical Control Theory, System Identification, Estimation Theory, Signal Processing, and multi-timescale constraint handling. The role focuses on solving complex power and thermal management problems in real-time embedded environments.
Define and evolve the multi-year power control architecture across all Apple product lines.
Design classical, modern, and data-driven control algorithms for battery, thermal, and performance constraints.
Guide algorithm implementation from initial concept through deployment in embedded environments.
Analyze real-world performance and power data to identify architectural and algorithmic improvements.
Explore data-driven and predictive approaches for power allocation using machine learning.
Review and approve all control system designs within the power control domain.
Mentor engineers and establish the technical direction for the power control systems team.
What we're looking for
Bachelor of Science degree.
Experience with Matlab/Simulink, C/C++, Bash, and/or Python.
Experience with control system design in areas like Classical/Modern Control Theory, System Identification, Estimation Theory, Signal Processing, or multi-timescale constraint handling.
Experience with AI tools.
MS or PhD in ME, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (preferred).
20+ years of relevant industry experience (preferred).
Experience implementing control systems in embedded microcontroller environments (preferred).
Experience applying data-driven or machine-learning approaches to power allocation, predictive analytics, or constraint prediction (preferred).
