The PNT Estimation and Algorithms Engineer joins the PNT team within Amazon Leo to design, implement, and monitor high-precision estimation architectures across terrestrial and space-based networks. The role involves developing and validating orbit determination, filtering, and sensor fusion algorithms to achieve precise positioning and timing accuracy using RF and optical inter-satellite link measurements. Key responsibilities include building orbit determination and clock estimation algorithms such as Extended Kalman Filters, Batch Least Squares, Square-Root/Sigma-Point Kalman Filters, and Factor Graph Optimization. The engineer will also develop inter-satellite link navigation models and build simulation frameworks like Monte Carlo CONOPS studies. Required skills include proficiency in Matlab or Python, experience with state estimation for dynamic systems, and knowledge of orbit determination, sensor fusion, and metrology applications.
Design, implement, and validate orbit determination and clock estimation algorithms using EKF, Batch Least Squares, and Factor Graph Optimization.
Develop navigation and time-transfer measurement models for inter-satellite links, including range and range-rate.
Integrate emerging estimation techniques like robust filtering and multi-sensor fusion to improve positioning and timing accuracy.
Build simulation and analysis frameworks, such as Monte Carlo studies, to characterize filter performance and covariance realism.
Conduct performance analysis and troubleshooting of estimation algorithms across distributed constellation and ground infrastructure.
Ensure estimator outputs meet mission-level accuracy requirements through rigorous testing and validation.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or granted asylum.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
4+ years of research experience in academia, industry, or government.
Proven experience developing and tuning estimation algorithms (Kalman filtering, batch least-squares, or factor graph optimization) for navigation or metrology.
Experience with orbit determination, sensor fusion, or state estimation for dynamic systems.
Experience with data analysis tools such as Matlab or Python.
Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets.
