JOB TITLE: Physical Design Lead – Custom Silicon Management The Physical Design Lead – Custom Silicon Management joins the Custom Silicon Management Group to lead technical engagements between the company and silicon suppliers. This senior level role involves supporting physical design activities for innovative chips used in mobile products. Key responsibilities include auditing vendor physical design flows, suggesting methodology improvements to optimize quality of results, and conducting deep technical design reviews. The lead must review final reports for tapeout approval, provide post-tapeout support for ECOs, and collaborate with packaging and process specialists. Required skills include physical design experience, digital design concepts, and knowledge of P&R methodology, including floor planning, clock tree synthesis, and timing closure. Proficiency in CAD tools from Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor, or Atoptech is preferred for managing complex mixed-signal SoC tapeouts.

What you'll do

Audit vendor physical design flows and methodologies to identify gaps and technical issues.
Suggest methodology improvements to optimize Quality of Results (QoR) for Apple chips.
Monitor vendor implementation teams to ensure they meet specific design goals and schedules.
Conduct periodic design reviews with deep technical dives to maintain project quality.
Review and sign off on final PD, STA, SI, and electrical analysis reports for tapeout.
Provide post-tapeout support for ECOs and hardware debugging as required.
Enforce consistent standards of operation across all vendors and projects.

What we're looking for

Physical Design experience.
Knowledge of digital design concepts.
10+ years of relevant industry experience (preferred).
Experience leading physical design teams (preferred).
Track record of taping out complex chips from gates to GDS (preferred).
Working knowledge of front-end design methodology, including RTL coding, synthesis, and timing constraints (preferred).
In-depth practical knowledge of P&R methodology, including floor planning, CTS, and physical verification (preferred).
