Performance Engineer, Kernel and Memory

What you'll do

• Diagnose and fix performance and scalability bottlenecks in the Linux kernel memory-management subsystem.
• Submit memory management changes to the mainline Linux kernel and maintain community standing.
• Build and extend low-overhead kernel instrumentation using tracepoints, BPF, and perf.
• Partner with kernel, networking, storage, and product engineers to implement system improvements.
• Set the technical direction for how the company tunes and evolves kernel memory management.
• Use production telemetry to identify and resolve infrastructure bottlenecks at scale.

What we're looking for

• Deep expertise in the Linux kernel memory-management subsystem, including page allocators, virtual memory, and concurrency.
• A track record of upstream Linux contribution, ideally including maintainership or sustained work in MM or adjacent subsystems.
• Strong systems programming skills in C with the judgment to make high-risk changes to shared infrastructure safely.
• Ability to dive deep into complex codebases and own problems and outcomes rather than single patches.
• Clear communication skills to collaborate with engineers across many different teams.
• Strong understanding of Linux kernel internals pertaining to memory management (preferred).
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving performance issues in large-scale distributed systems (preferred).
• Export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
