TL;DR · OTA Quality Engineer

The OTA Quality Engineer serves as a key technical engineer supporting enterprise-wide Over the Air software update performance, triage, and quality execution across current and emerging vehicle platforms. This role involves managing the technical resolution and troubleshooting of issues stemming from fleet triage, development vehicles, and manufacturing plants while ensuring robust performance for VIP and SDV platforms. The engineer will perform data acquisition, analyze CGM and CAN logs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure updates are captured in requirements and test cases. Required skills include a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field, experience in software validation or triage, and proficiency in vehicle networking protocols such as CAN, UDS, and DoIP. Preferred technical competencies include Python, Selenium, CAPL, and AUTOBOT for automation, alongside experience with SDV architectures and specialized tools like GSPAS and VSMS dashboards.

What you'll do

  • Perform technical triage and troubleshooting for Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates across vehicle programs from development through launch.
  • Analyze CGM, TCP, VCU, and CAN logs to identify and resolve issues affecting OTA performance and reliability.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure OTA requirements are captured in test cases, verification plans, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee the root cause analysis of failures involving vehicle software, connectivity, back-office systems, and 12V power concerns.
  • Utilize system benches, CTF fleets, and automated tools to conduct stress testing and expand edge case coverage.
  • Execute OTA readiness plans and monitor campaign performance to ensure high-quality delivery for fleet and production vehicles.
  • Develop and formalize standard work, triage methods, and metrics to drive continuous improvement in OTA processes.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2 or more years of experience in software development, validation, quality, integration, triage, or software program management.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for embedded systems or vehicle architectures including log interpretation and technical data analysis.
  • Working knowledge of vehicle networking and reflash concepts such as CAN, UDS, DoIP, or similar.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating across multiple teams with strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to summarize complex technical issues for diverse audiences.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10 to 20 percent between Milford, Warren, and vehicle plants as required.
  • Experience in automotive software development or OTA systems, including knowledge of cloud services and automation tools like Python or CAPL (preferred).
