The OT Systems Engineer, Mission Systems role is situated within the mission IT organization to support dedicated controls engineering teams. This position involves designing, deploying, and maintaining backend infrastructure for next-generation industrial software platforms and HMIs critical to launch, manufacturing, and commodities generation environments. The engineer will manage legacy systems while leading modernization initiatives, including creating development, test, and staging environments. Key responsibilities include performing system upgrades, monitoring services for high availability, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with Purdue Model and IEC 62443 standards. Technical requirements include experience with industrial control networks, virtualization, VDI, GitOps, and edge compute solutions. The candidate will utilize tools such as Bash, PowerShell, Python, Puppet, Terraform, and Ansible to implement infrastructure-as-code and automation within secure ICS environments across multiple sites.
Design, deploy, and augment next-generation OT environments for plant and launch systems across multiple sites.
Install, configure, and maintain industry-standard controls software platforms and internally developed HMIs.
Integrate IT technologies such as virtualization, VDI, and edge compute to improve security and scalability.
Maintain development, test, and staging environments to facilitate controlled, systematic changes.
Provide direct technical support during active launch, test, and production campaigns.
Execute system upgrades and maintenance during off-peak hours to ensure high availability.
Implement automation tools and infrastructure-as-code practices within industrial control systems (ICS) environments.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, including architecture standards and operational procedures for secure industrial environments.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 3+ years of experience in OT systems engineering or industrial control systems administration; OR 5+ years of experience without a degree.
Hands-on experience with multiple industry standard controls software platforms and tools.
Significant experience designing, deploying, supporting, and troubleshooting OT environments in high-reliability settings.
Ability to pass a DoD background check for launch site access.
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
Experience supporting real-time systems, industrial control networks, or OT environments in aerospace, defense, energy, or similar industries (preferred).
Proficiency in scripting (Bash/PowerShell/Python) and automation frameworks like Puppet, Terraform, or Ansible (preferred).
Experience with infrastructure as code, configuration management, and DevOps concepts (preferred).
