IT Systems Engineer, Propellant Generation & Industrial Systems joins the mission IT organization to implement and support backend infrastructure for next-generation controls and industrial software platforms. This role involves designing, deploying, and maintaining OT environments that support plant and launch systems across multiple sites. The engineer will manage industry-standard controls software, develop HMIs, and integrate IT technologies like virtualization, VDI, GitOps, network-level redundancy, and edge compute solutions to create secure ICS environments. Day-to-day tasks include performing system upgrades, monitoring services for high availability, and utilizing automation tools through infrastructure-as-code and DevOps initiatives. The role requires expertise in industrial protocols, scripting with Bash, PowerShell, or Python, and managing Windows and Linux servers. This position addresses the critical challenge of modernizing legacy systems while ensuring compliance with Purdue Model and IEC 62443 standards for high-reliability manufacturing and commodity generation environments.
Design, deploy, and augment next-generation OT environments for plant and launch systems across multiple sites.
Install, configure, and maintain industry-standard controls software platforms and internal HMIs.
Integrate IT technologies like virtualization and GitOps to improve security and scalability in industrial environments.
Maintain development, test, and staging environments to ensure controlled and systematic change management.
Provide direct technical support during active launch, test, and production campaigns.
Perform system upgrades and maintenance during off-peak hours to ensure high availability of critical services.
Implement automation tools and infrastructure-as-code practices specifically for industrial control systems (ICS).
Create and maintain technical documentation, including system architectures, design drawings, and operational procedures.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 3+ years of experience in OT systems engineering or industrial control systems administration; OR 5+ years of experience without a degree.
Experience with multiple industry standard controls software platforms and tools.
Experience designing, deploying, supporting, and troubleshooting OT environments in high-reliability settings.
Ability to pass a DoD background check for launch site access.
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
Project management experience leading concurrent projects across cross-functional teams (preferred).
Experience in aerospace, defense, energy, or similar high-reliability industries (preferred).
Proficiency in scripting (Bash/PowerShell/Python), automation frameworks, and infrastructure as code (preferred).
