Network Threat Detection R&D Engineer The Network Detection and Research Team is seeking an ICB5 Staff Engineer to develop network security and intrusion detection capabilities for the vDefend Advanced Threat Prevention solution. You will conduct deep-dive research into emerging agentic and human threats while architecting and building AI-enabled security solutions to protect virtual workloads in large-scale data center environments. Your daily responsibilities include analyzing malicious traffic to prototype high-performance IDPS signatures, constructing scalable data collection infrastructures with automated feedback loops, and translating threat intelligence into actionable detection logic. The role requires expertise in Python programming, Docker, and k8s environments, alongside a strong proficiency in AI tools and agentic AI systems. This position focuses on the technical challenge of detecting and preventing advanced threats through a data-driven approach that leverages machine learning to secure complex networking infrastructures.

What you'll do

  • Conduct deep-dive research into emerging human and agentic network threats to stay ahead of adversaries.

  • Analyze malicious traffic to design, prototype, and implement high-performance IDPS signatures.
  • Construct and maintain scalable data collection infrastructures with automated feedback loops and enrichment.
  • Translate threat intelligence into actionable, high-fidelity detection logic and signatures.
  • Develop novel detection capabilities using a data-driven approach incorporating AI and machine learning.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 12+ years of experience, Master’s with 10+ years, or PhD with 7+ years.
  • Strong experience and interest in network security.
  • Understanding of IDPS concepts and experience developing IDS signatures.
  • Experience with the Python programming language.
  • Familiarity with Docker and k8s environments.
  • Willingness and familiarity in working with AI tools and agentic AI systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
