TL;DR · Insider Threat Detection Engineer

JOB TITLE: Insider Threat Detection Engineer The Insider Threat Detection Engineer joins the team responsible for protecting intellectual property, engineering systems, and data. This role involves building, testing, deploying, and tuning detections across identity, endpoint, cloud, SaaS, collaboration platforms, source-code repositories, and build systems. You will lead investigations into unusual data movement, unapproved application use, and access anomalies by correlating information from various sources to reconstruct activity and establish timelines. Key responsibilities include developing automation, data pipelines, and investigation tools to reduce manual work. Required skills include proficiency in Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript, along with SQL and security-query capabilities. You must possess experience with SIEM, DLP, UEBA, EDR, and identity security to solve complex insider-risk scenarios while distinguishing facts from assumptions in sensitive environments.

What you'll do

  • Build, test, deploy, and tune detections across identity, endpoint, cloud, SaaS, and source-code repositories.
  • Lead investigations into unusual data movement, unapproved application use, access anomalies, and compromised accounts.
  • Collect and correlate information from multiple security sources to reconstruct activity and establish timelines.
  • Develop automation, data pipelines, and investigation tools to reduce manual work and improve efficiency.
  • Assess and improve insider-risk and data loss prevention capabilities by analyzing policy performance and alert quality.
  • Present findings that distinguish facts from inferences to Security, Legal, HR, and Privacy partners.
  • Work with authorized partners on evidence preservation, containment, escalation, and remediation during investigations.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Data Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in insider threat, detection engineering, security operations, incident response, digital forensics, data protection, threat hunting, or a related security field.
  • Experience conducting security investigations, including defining scope, collecting evidence, developing timelines, and documenting findings.
  • Experience with security technologies such as SIEM, DLP, UEBA, EDR, insider-risk management, identity security, case management, or security orchestration.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language like Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript to build automation with APIs and source control.
  • SQL, security-query, and data-analysis skills to correlate incomplete or inconsistent data from multiple sources.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management, endpoints, cloud services, collaboration platforms, SaaS integrations, and data-exfiltration methods.
  • Experience engineering insider-risk, data loss prevention, or endpoint data-protection capabilities and connecting signals to SIEM or orchestration (preferred).
