Network Operations Engineer (Starlink)
As a Network Operations Engineer on the Starlink team, you will engineer the operational systems and processes required to support a massive satellite constellation providing global internet access. You will build tools, develop monitoring and alerting systems, and create automated workflows to manage orbital and terrestrial assets while minimizing manual intervention. Collaborating with software, hardware, and network engineers, you will manage the full project lifecycle from development and testing to deployment and support. The role requires proficiency in Python, SQL, and bash scripting, along with experience in modern networking protocols like TCP/IPv4/IPv6, BGP, OSPF, and MPLS. You will solve complex technical issues within software-defined networking environments to ensure rapid incident response. Key competencies include troubleshooting consumer devices, managing subscriber services via RADIUS or BNG, and implementing network security measures to protect the customer experience.
Develop and scale Starlink Network Operations tools and processes to support global internet access.
Collaborate with engineering teams to integrate debugging tools and design for operations into NetOps workflows.
Manage the full lifecycle of projects including development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support.
Create monitoring, alerting, and triage systems to identify and resolve emergent network problems quickly.
Establish rapid incident response processes to minimize impact on the customer experience.
Automate manual tasks to drive continuous improvement in network operations efficiency.
Define project roadmaps and manage scope while making risk-conscious decisions under pressure.
Participate in an on-call rotation to support critical network operations as needed.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science; or 2+ years of professional experience in software development, system administration, site reliability, or network operations.
Experience with Python, SQL, and/or bash scripting.
Experience with modern networking protocols including TCP/IPv4/IPv6, voice, video, broadcast, and streaming.
Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, math, or science is preferred.
2+ years of experience developing software, processes, or projects in a rapidly changing environment.
Knowledge of service provider technologies such as MPLS, BGP, OSPF, RADIUS/AAA, and Anti-DDoS measures.
Experience with SDN environments, NFV, residential/enterprise WiFi design, and creating documentation from scratch.
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for export control authorizations.
