Network Engineer, Principal Specialist joins the Classified Infrastructure Services team to ensure the smooth operation of classified network infrastructure. The successful candidate will perform network analysis for short- and long-range planning, create technical diagrams, and coordinate third-party maintenance. The role requires expertise in STIG compliance, network refreshes, and troubleshooting in tactical environments. This position addresses the critical challenge of maintaining secure communication systems within classified computing areas to support defense-oriented programs and ensure high availability for government networks.

What you'll do

  • Install, maintain, support, and monitor classified network infrastructure for voice and data communications.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Manage network management software platforms including SolarWinds and Cisco ISE with 802.1X.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including operational instructions and network diagrams.
  • Propose and implement hardware and software solutions to optimize costs and ensure network uptime.
  • Perform regular monitoring and analysis for short- and long-range planning of in-house systems.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors and contractors for equipment maintenance and support.
  • Mentor and train team members to improve overall technical performance and knowledge sharing.

What we're looking for

  • U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • An active and transferable U.S. government Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • A university degree with 5 years of experience or an advanced degree with 3 years of experience is required.
  • Experience in configuration and troubleshooting of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems is required.
  • Preferred experience includes Cisco ISE with 802.1X, SolarWinds, and setting up client server environments for government networks.
  • Preferred skills include knowledge of cabling/fiber standards, access control lists, and Visio diagramming.
  • Experience with classified computing, STIG compliance, and network refreshes is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain Security+ certification within 6 months and CCNA within one year is desired.
