TL;DR · Mission Systems Lead

Mission Systems Lead - Thunder joins the Maneuver Dominance team to lead the technical development and integration of mission systems for the Thunder autonomous tilt-rotor platform. This role involves overseeing payload and weapon system integration, managing hardware selection, and driving architecture design for robotic mission systems. The position requires coordinating with internal teams and third-party vendors to ensure requirements traceability and compliance with standards like MOSA/WOSA, STANAG 4586, MIL-STD-1760, and MIL-STD-1553. Key responsibilities include defining interface control documents, overseeing software development for on- and off-platform systems, and managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in Python, C++, or Rust, along with experience in high-assurance safety-critical software, modeling and simulation, and the product delivery lifecycle. This role addresses the challenge of creating a runway-independent, uncrewed platform capable of operating in contested environments.

What you'll do

  • Lead the technical development and integration of mission systems for the Thunder platform from concept to delivery.
  • Oversee payload and weapon system integration while ensuring compliance with safety and export control requirements.
  • Drive architecture selection for robotic mission systems including hardware, compute, storage, and network infrastructure.
  • Manage interoperability and open-architecture standards such as MOSA/WOSA and STANAG 4586.
  • Define and manage interface control documents (ICDs) for third-party payload and weapon integrations.
  • Collaborate with airworthiness stakeholders to ensure mission system designs meet certification requirements.
  • Lead and mentor multi-disciplinary engineering teams to develop on-platform and off-platform software.
  • Develop testing, simulation fixtures, and manufacturing support processes for the product lifecycle.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in a senior role for the delivery of a military mission system.
  • Experience managing engineering teams within a high performing technology organization.
  • Experience developing distributed software platform and application architectures under dynamic network topologies.
  • Experience with modeling and simulation, Python, and modern languages like C++ or Rust.
  • Experience developing high assurance safety critical software and comprehensive test suites.
  • Deep understanding of weapon and payload integration for autonomous systems across commercial and military missions.
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering concepts, including requirements traceability and interface control documentation (ICDs).
  • Familiarity with MOSA/WOSA principles and standard military avionics/weapon protocols like MIL-STD-1760 and MIL-STD-1553.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a relevant field (preferred).
  • Experience with airworthiness certification processes for uncrewed or manned-unmanned teaming aircraft (preferred).
  • Familiarity with export control considerations (ITAR/EAR) related to weapon/payload systems (preferred).
