TL;DR · Mission Systems Lead

The Mission Systems Lead joins the Omen team to lead a technical team in developing and integrating mission systems for a hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle. This role involves overseeing mission perception, mission autonomy, and payload systems from initial concept through delivery. You will build and manage a multi-disciplinary engineering team, defining the technical roadmap and establishing standards for software stacks, sensing, and world model development. Key responsibilities include integrating payload modules, managing hardware selection, and ensuring navigation in GPS-denied conditions. Required skills include experience with Python, C++, and Rust, alongside expertise in distributed software architectures, robotics, and systems engineering. You will solve complex problems regarding autonomous mission execution, operator command and control, and modular open systems for a runway-independent Group 3 platform.

What you'll do

  • Lead a technical team in the development and integration of Omen’s mission perception, autonomy, and payload systems.
  • Hire, manage, and mentor multi-disciplinary engineers while setting technical standards and team norms.
  • Define and own the technical roadmap for mission systems across short, medium, and long-term horizons.
  • Own the software stack for autonomous mission execution, including planning, operation, and command and control tools.
  • Integrate payload modules with the host vehicle stack, managing power, bandwidth, timing, and autonomy interfaces.
  • Oversee sensing and world model development for safe navigation in GPS-denied and austere environments.
  • Drive architecture selection for robotic mission systems, including hardware, compute, storage, and network designs.
  • Define and own payload interface control documents (ICDs) for third-party and government-furnished vendors.

What we're looking for

  • Experience as a Senior or staff robotics or software development engineer.
  • Experience managing engineering teams within a high performing technology organization.
  • Experience with development and sustainment of distributed software platform and application architectures under dynamic network topologies.
  • Experience with Python and modern systems/application programming languages like C++ or Rust.
  • Deep understanding of autonomous systems, including perception and payload capabilities for commercial and military missions.
  • Experience with the product delivery lifecycle including manufacturing, system acceptance, deployment, and sustainment.
  • Familiarity with vehicle management systems, Systems Engineering concepts, requirements traceability, and ICDs.
  • Familiarity with modular open systems approaches and standard interface protocols for air vehicle mission systems.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, a relevant field, or equivalent experience (preferred).
  • Experience with high assurance safety critical software, modeling and simulation, and comprehensive test suites (preferred).
  • Experience delivering perception, world modeling, or assured navigation for autonomous vehicles in GPS-denied environments (preferred).
  • Experience building mission planning, operator control, or post-mission debrief tooling for uncrewed systems (preferred).
  • Experience integrating third-party or government-furnished payloads into a new host platform (preferred).
  • Experience troubleshooting and analyzing remotely deployed software systems (preferred).
  • Track record of mentoring senior engineers and building team cohesion (preferred).
  • Operational experience with autonomous air systems, ideally Group 3 or shipboard/expeditionary (preferred).
