As a Mission Operations Systems Development Engineer, Optical Inter-Satellite Link, you will join the Optical Inter-Satellite Link team to ensure the operational success of payload and bus functions at a systems level. You will coordinate between ground, network, and space engineering teams while driving automation and operational excellence for the optical network. Your daily responsibilities include designing and conducting operational rehearsals, preparing for launches and on-orbit demonstrations, developing concepts for mission experiments, and performing analysis on system data to improve performance. The role requires expertise in space system design, optical systems, and software engineering practices. You will utilize Linux/Unix environments, CI/CD pipelines, and programming languages such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust. This position focuses on the technical challenge of maintaining a satellite constellation with minimal manual intervention through scalable automation.

What you'll do

  • Design and conduct operational rehearsals for satellite systems.
  • Coordinate all launch activities and early operation phases for the OISL network.
  • Develop concepts for OISL network operations during missions and experiments.
  • Analyze system data to identify and implement mechanisms for performance improvement.
  • Drive scalable automation efforts to ensure constellation functions with minimal manual intervention.
  • Develop and execute integration vehicle test plans.
  • Coordinate between ground, network, and space systems engineering teams.

What we're looking for

  • Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure.
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes.
  • 3+ years of engineering experience (preferred).
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and utilizing data to drive process and system improvements (preferred).
  • Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates.
