TL;DR · Microservices Digital Software Engineer

The Microservices Digital Software Engineer (Citi Retail Services) serves as a technical leader within the retail services division, bridging current production systems with next-generation cloud-native architectures. This role involves leading mid-size feature designs, performing architectural trade-off analyses, and managing the full development lifecycle for high-throughput financial products. The engineer will build and evolve containerized applications in hybrid cloud environments while ensuring system reliability through proactive monitoring and performance engineering. Key technologies include Java, Python 3.10+, or TypeScript; Docker and Kubernetes (OpenShift or EKS); and integration tools like TIBCO, Apache Kafka, or MuleSoft. Additionally, the role requires proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, relational and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL or MongoDB, and observability stacks such as Prometheus and Grafana to solve complex technical challenges in a high-volume, mission-critical financial services environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead the design, development, and execution of mid-size feature applications and larger project components.
  • Architect and evolve microservices-based systems within hybrid cloud environments using containerized technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot complex coding issues, application performance bottlenecks, and root cause defects.
  • Drive technical decision-making for system architecture, including trade-off analysis and the establishment of coding standards.
  • Partner with third-party vendors to align implementation plans with digital architecture roadmaps and increase development velocity.
  • Manage project risks by communicating progress, identifying bottlenecks, and coordinating escalation management across teams.
  • Optimize engineering processes by streamlining redundant tasks in build, delivery, and production environments.
  • Share technical expertise through internal forums and contribute to the firm's knowledge base via certifications and mentorship.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of infrastructure management and software engineering experience.
  • Deep expertise in high-performance computing using Java for multi-threaded, distributed applications in a Microservices architecture.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python 3.10+ or TypeScript.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, EKS) or Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes (OpenShift or Amazon EKS preferred).
  • Experience with integration technologies including TIBCO, Apache Kafka, or MuleSoft for event-driven architectures.
  • Proficiency in CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD.
