The Media Malware Analyst, Journeyman role supports United States Cyber Command operations by identifying and analyzing sophisticated malware threats targeting the Department of Defense Information Network and associated networks. Working within the National Security Sector, you will perform static and dynamic malware analysis, reverse engineering, and forensic analysis of compromised systems to identify adversary TTPs and intrusion artifacts. You will create technical reports with actionable intelligence, develop signature and heuristic indicators, and conduct log and system analysis across Windows, UNIX, and router platforms. The role requires proficiency in tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Wireshark, Volatility, and various sandbox environments. Key responsibilities include evaluating all-source intelligence to identify cyber threat patterns, conducting risk assessments, and collaborating with technical elements to enhance situational awareness against state and non-state adversaries within the Cyberspace domain.
Perform static and dynamic malware analysis including reverse engineering to extract malicious files from digital media.
Conduct forensic analysis of compromised systems to identify adversary TTPs and intrusion artifacts.
Create technical reports and deliver threat briefings to leadership regarding actionable intelligence findings.
Identify unique indicators for the development of signature and heuristic detection tools.
Analyze logs and system data from routers, Windows, and UNIX systems to detect threats.
Research open-source intelligence to inform threat assessments and the creation of signature repositories.
Conduct in-depth risk assessments to categorize the posture of detected cyber threats.
Draft and support the implementation of security incident response policies.
What we're looking for
Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and Polygraph required.
BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Digital Forensics, or related field (or ability to complete within one year).
Formal education may be substituted with equivalent experience and technical certifications.
Five plus years of demonstrated proficiency in malware analysis (static/dynamic), incident handling, and reverse engineering.
Experience with tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Wireshark, Volatility, and sandbox environments.
Familiarity with network protocols, OS internals (Windows/Linux/UNIX), and cyber threat analysis.
Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals and various communication media including satellite, fiber, and wireless.
Master's degree or higher in Cybersecurity or related fields (preferred); experience with AI/ML, Power BI, or specific industry certifications (preferred).
