The Media Malware Analyst, Journeyman joins the Intelligence Sector to support United States Cyber Command operations. This role involves identifying and analyzing sophisticated malware threats targeting the Department of Defense Information Network and associated organizations. You will conduct forensic analysis of compromised systems, perform static and dynamic malware analysis, and execute reverse engineering to extract malicious files from digital media. Key responsibilities include creating technical analysis reports, identifying unique indicators for signature development, and analyzing operational reporting to correlate attack trends. You will utilize tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Wireshark, and Volatility across Windows, UNIX, and Linux environments. The work focuses on assessing emerging threats in the Cyberspace domain, researching open-source intelligence, and developing risk assessment methodologies to protect national security objectives against state and non-state adversaries.
Conduct static and dynamic malware analysis, including reverse engineering and extracting malicious files from digital media.
Perform forensic analysis of compromised systems to identify adversary TTPs and intrusion artifacts.
Create technical analysis reports and deliver actionable threat briefs and presentations to leadership.
Identify unique indicators for signature and heuristic development and maintain validated MD5 hash lists.
Analyze operational reporting to correlate attack trends and support the development of enterprise malware analysis tools.
Conduct log and system analysis for routers, Windows, and UNIX to detect threats and update situational awareness.
Research open-source intelligence to inform threat assessments and signature creation.
Draft and support the implementation of security incident response policies.
What we're looking for
Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility and Polygraph required.
BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Digital Forensics, or related field, or ability to complete degree within one year.
Formal education may be substituted with extended experience and technical certifications.
Five plus years of demonstrated proficiency in malware analysis (static/dynamic), incident handling, and reverse engineering.
Working experience with tools such as IDA Pro, Ghidra, Wireshark, Volatility, and sandbox environments.
Intimate familiarity with network protocols, OS internals (Windows/Linux/UNIX), and cyber threat analysis.
Knowledge of computer networking fundamentals and operations of various communications media.
Masters’ Degree or higher in Cybersecurity, Information Security, or related fields (preferred).
