TL;DR · Materials Scientist, ALD Coating Technology

As a Materials Scientist – ALD Coating Technology within the Materials Center of Excellence, you will serve as a subject matter expert focused on the development, productization, and execution of atomic layer deposition coatings. You will be responsible for designing and optimizing manufacturing processes for display and semiconductor technologies while managing projects from initial ideation through commercialization. Your daily work involves performing hardware characterization on complex systems, measuring film properties, troubleshooting engineering issues, and defining material measurement techniques. You will utilize expertise in surface chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and corrosion or erosion analysis to solve high-value problems regarding metal, oxide, and fluoride materials. The role requires technical proficiency in ALD coatings for semiconductor equipment components, where you will collaborate with R&D teams to develop next-generation chamber architectures and innovative coating solutions that improve device performance and yield.

What you'll do

  • Design and optimize manufacturing processes for display and semiconductor technologies.
  • Develop, plan, and execute material engineering projects for a range of products.
  • Perform hardware characterization and troubleshoot complex materials engineering issues.
  • Collect and analyze data from experiments to generate technical reports and specifications.
  • Define and validate material measurement techniques while training other engineers on data interpretation.
  • Evaluate technical trade-offs against cost factors for various material solutions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for ALD coatings in both hardware and process development.
  • Engage with customers and internal leadership to resolve high-value engineering problems.

What we're looking for

  • Must have at least 5 years of experience in ALD coatings and related hardware development.
  • A BS degree in Engineering is required, with a Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Must possess expert knowledge of ALD coatings (metals/oxide/fluoride) for semiconductor equipment components.
  • Must demonstrate expertise in surface chemistry and interactions of materials in chemical and plasma environments.
  • Experience in material characterization methods and failure analysis of materials is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to perform hardware characterization on complex systems while following safety guidelines.
  • Ability to design, collect data, and analyze results for complex materials engineering experiments.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex ideas and persuade senior leadership.
