As a Materials Engineer on the Starmind team, you will support the development of a new satellite constellation designed to capture solar energy for high-performance AI compute in space. You will own the full lifecycle of materials specification, validation, and process development for hardware enabling on-orbit AI processing and data center workloads. Your daily responsibilities include developing high-reliability microelectronics packages, cooling systems, and radiator hardware while managing supply chains for plating chemicals, coatings, and thermal interface materials. You will perform device modeling, failure analysis, and metrology tool implementation. Required skills include a bachelor's degree in materials science or mechanical engineering and experience in microelectronics device research or manufacturing. Preferred experience includes Python, MATLAB, PFMEA, SPC, and familiarity with cleanroom practices and automated pick-and-place equipment.
Develop high-reliability microelectronics packages, cooling systems, and radiator hardware for satellites.
Manage the full lifecycle of materials specification, validation, device modeling, and failure analysis.
Drive system trades, requirements capture, materials selection, and prototyping for orbital compute hardware.
Build and manage supply chains for plating chemicals, coatings, and thermal interface materials.
Develop next-generation thermal interface materials to improve advanced packaging performance.
Specify in-process metrology tools and design thermal test vehicles to evaluate material properties.
Integrate simulation tools with experimental data to drive targeted material or process improvements.
Manage compliance risks to ensure materials and processes meet safety and environmental standards.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, or other engineering discipline.
Experience in microelectronics device research or manufacturing.
Master’s degree in materials science or similar field (preferred).
Internship, co-op, or early-career experience in hardware, robotics, automation, or manufacturing environments (preferred).
Experience designing tooling, fixtures, or jigs for assembly or test applications (preferred).
Exposure to scripting or data analysis tools like Python or MATLAB for process data analysis or automation (preferred).
Experience with precision assemblies, robotic systems, or automated pick-and-place equipment (preferred).
U.S. citizenship, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligibility to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
