The ideal candidate possesses a USCG Merchant Mariner Credential as a First Assistant Engineer, STCW Endorsements, and experience in electronics troubleshooting and marine operational procedures. This role addresses the technical challenges of maritime autonomy by integrating surface vessel navigation, communication systems, and sensor fusion to solve complex problems in the domain of autonomous maritime operations and automated vessel systems.
Perform hands-on troubleshooting, repair, operation, and maintenance of autonomous surface vessels (ASVs) in the field.
Conduct daily local operations including pre-mission testing, vehicle tasking, and data analysis for multiple platforms.
Deploy globally to support at-sea operations from various types of support vessels.
Write, review, and execute test plans during at-sea testing phases.
Coordinate underway event execution with third-party vendors, partners, and logistics companies.
Author detailed daily operational reports to document internal and customer-facing activities.
Support software UI design and the development of user documentation for ASV operations.
What we're looking for
Valid USCG Merchant Mariner Credential as a First Assistant Engineer (or higher) of Motor Vessels, Unlimited Horsepower, with current STCW Endorsements.
5+ years experience operating at-sea, ideally on autonomous vessels or those with high system automation.
Knowledge of electronics troubleshooting and basic use of test and maintenance equipment.
Demonstrated experience with the development of operational procedures and equipment.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and be in the Costa Mesa, CA office daily when not deployed.
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
Experience operating and testing complex systems in a maritime environment (preferred).
Experience integrating surface/airborne sensors, navigation, and communication systems (preferred).
