The Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Inspection & Converting) joins the Automated Inspection and Measurement group to develop, integrate, and support advanced vision and automation systems. This role focuses on designing and commissioning smart slitting and converting systems, specifically automated slitters that utilize upstream web inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and defect avoidance. The engineer will translate inspection data into actionable strategies like roll mapping and closed-loop control. Key responsibilities include implementing automated inspection solutions using optics, machine vision, image processing, data analytics, and AI/machine learning. Candidates must possess expertise in converting technologies, PLCs, HMIs, motion control, and industrial networking. The position solves complex manufacturing challenges by improving product quality, yield, and plant performance through scalable deployment of digital manufacturing capabilities across multiple production platforms.
Design, integrate, commission, and support smart slitting and converting systems.
Translate upstream inspection data into actionable converting strategies like roll mapping and defect classification.
Develop automated inspection solutions using machine vision, image processing, and AI/machine learning.
Troubleshoot and optimize smart converting systems in production environments to ensure reliability.
Provide technical support and on-call assistance to manufacturing sites to maintain system uptime.
Identify opportunities to standardize and scale smart converting technologies across manufacturing platforms.
Train operators and create documentation for smart converting and inspection systems.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
Advanced technical expertise equivalent to a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Optical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical discipline (preferred).
Three or more years of professional experience developing, implementing, commissioning, or supporting automated inspection, machine vision, smart converting, or automated slitting systems.
Experience with converting technologies, including roll-good handling, slitting, rewinding, automated slitting, web handling, and related converting processes (preferred).
Experience applying process engineering principles in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment (preferred).
Experience working with upstream inspection data, roll maps, defect classification, recipe management, cut planning, or data-driven converting workflows (preferred).
Familiarity with automated manufacturing systems, including PLCs, HMIs, motion control, sensors, machine vision hardware, industrial networking, and manufacturing data systems (preferred).
