Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Inspection & Converting) joins the Automated Inspection and Measurement group to develop, integrate, and support advanced vision, inspection, measurement, and automation systems across manufacturing operations. The role focuses on designing and commissioning smart slitting and converting systems that utilize upstream web inspection data for recipe management, cut planning, and dynamic process control. You will build automated inspection solutions using optics, machine vision, image processing, data analytics, and AI/machine learning to improve product quality and yield. Key technical requirements include experience with PLCs, HMIs, motion control, sensors, industrial networking, and manufacturing data systems. The position addresses the challenge of translating complex inspection data into actionable converting strategies like roll mapping and defect classification while ensuring operational continuity through troubleshooting and performance optimization in production environments to drive scalable, high-quality manufacturing outcomes across multiple divisions.
Design, integrate, and commission smart slitting and converting systems using automated machinery.
Translate upstream inspection data into actionable strategies for roll mapping, defect classification, and cut optimization.
Develop and implement machine vision, image processing, and AI/ML solutions to improve product quality and yield.
Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and performance optimization for equipment in production environments.
Identify opportunities to standardize and scale smart converting technologies across multiple manufacturing platforms.
Conduct training for operators and create documentation for system upgrades and reliability improvements.
Travel to manufacturing sites to provide on-call support and ensure continuous operational uptime.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
Advanced technical expertise equivalent to a master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Optical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field (preferred).
Three or more years of professional experience developing, implementing, commissioning, or supporting automated inspection, machine vision, smart converting, or automated slitting systems.
Experience with converting technologies including roll-good handling, slitting, rewinding, and web handling.
Experience applying process engineering principles in manufacturing environments, including troubleshooting, optimization, and equipment commissioning.
Experience working with upstream inspection data, roll maps, defect classification, recipe management, or data-driven converting workflows.
Familiarity with automated manufacturing systems including PLCs, HMIs, motion control, sensors, machine vision hardware, and industrial networking.
Demonstrated knowledge in image processing, signal processing, optics, lighting, camera selection, opto-mechanical design, software development, electronics, or industrial networking.
