Join our Reliability Platform Engineering team as an experienced Engineering Manager, leading a high-performance product engineering group focused on building systems and practices that ensure the safety and reliability of Affirm’s production environment through observability, AI, and operational workflows. Ideal candidates have 7+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience with 2+ years in leadership roles, expertise in observability tools, strong programming skills (Python, Kotlin, Java), and the ability to balance rapid iteration with operational rigor.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development of systems and practices for understanding, prioritizing, and reducing systemic reliability risks.
  • Build a high-performance product engineering team focused on innovation, accountability, and execution in reliability.
  • Develop scalable operational tooling and governance capabilities using observability, AI, and automation.
  • Translate organizational challenges into technical requirements and measurable outcomes for reliability initiatives.
  • Drive alignment and define requirements across Platform Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure, and Product Engineering teams.

What we're looking for

  • 7+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience with at least 2 years in leadership roles
  • Experience working within Production Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering teams
  • Expertise in observability tools and building software to drive reliability practices
  • Strong operational judgment for prioritization and execution in ambiguous problem spaces
  • Proven ability to build internal platforms, developer tooling, and operational automation systems at scale
  • Demonstrated skill in balancing rapid iteration with long-term maintainability and operational rigor
  • Strong programming background (Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar)
