TL;DR · Manager, IT Infrastructure (Storage, Compute, & Virtualization)

Manager, IT Infrastructure (Storage, Compute, & Virtualization) leads a team of engineers focused on the design, development, and operation of server, hypervisor, and storage systems supporting engineering, production, and mission workloads. The role involves managing the architecture and lifecycle of enterprise compute and virtualization platforms while overseeing capacity planning, performance engineering, and high-availability strategies for datastores and virtual machines. Key responsibilities include mentoring staff, negotiating with vendors, and driving automation through infrastructure as code and scripting in languages like Python or PowerShell. Technical requirements include expertise in VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, KVM, and storage protocols such as NFS, SMB/CIFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NVMe-oF, NetApp, and Pure Storage. The position addresses the critical challenge of providing scalable, high-performance infrastructure to support complex aerospace engineering and production operations.

What you'll do

  • Manage the architecture, lifecycle, and daily operations of enterprise compute, virtualization, and storage platforms.
  • Lead and develop a team of engineers focused on hypervisor clusters, servers, and high-performance storage systems.
  • Perform capacity planning and performance engineering to ensure infrastructure meets growing demand from internal teams.
  • Design and implement high-availability, backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies for virtual machines and datastores.
  • Establish hardware standards, manage vendor relationships, and negotiate pricing for server and storage equipment.
  • Drive automation of provisioning, patching, and operational tasks using infrastructure as code and scripting.
  • Oversee the installation, configuration, firmware management, and decommissioning of all physical hardware components.
  • Provide off-peak or weekend support to perform high-risk maintenance and system upgrades.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 5+ years of experience in server infrastructure, virtualization, and storage platforms; OR 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 5+ years of experience leading and managing technical IT teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee to meet export control requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted for equipment mounting and moving.
  • Availability for travel under 25% and for extended hours or weekends when necessary.
  • Experience architecting and operating enterprise storage including NFS, SMB/CIFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NVMe-oF, NetApp, Pure Storage, and object storage (preferred).
  • Experience operating production virtualization platforms such as VMware vSphere/vCenter, Hyper-V, or KVM (preferred).
  • Proficiency in a scripting language like Python or PowerShell; Ansible or equivalent configuration management is a plus (preferred).
