As the Machine Learning Architect - Conversational Speech, you will join the Siri organization to serve as a senior technical leader across the entire speech division. You will define the modeling strategy and architectural roadmap for speech recognition, synthesis, dialog systems, multimodal foundation models, and speech-to-speech technologies. Your daily work involves acting as a hands-on expert to solve complex technical problems, evaluating emerging research in large language models and full-duplex conversational systems, and ensuring production-readiness regarding on-device constraints and latency. You will utilize Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow to build tools for natural language understanding and multimodal interaction. The role focuses on the technical challenge of creating integrated, personalized conversational experiences by advancing speech-to-speech pipelines and high-quality audio understanding within a complex ecosystem of interconnected technologies.
Define the modeling strategy and technical direction for speech recognition, synthesis, and dialog systems.
Provide deep technical guidance as a subject matter expert across multiple interconnected speech teams.
Translate emerging research in LLMs and multimodal architectures into actionable product roadmaps.
Ensure architectural decisions meet production requirements for on-device constraints, latency, and scalability.
Solve complex technical problems hands-on to overcome critical obstacles in speech-to-speech systems.
Align speech modeling investments with broader Apple Intelligence and hardware engineering strategies.
What we're looking for
10+ years of experience in machine learning applied to speech or multimodal systems with increasing technical leadership.
Demonstrated expertise as a technical leader or architect defining modeling direction across multiple teams or product areas.
Deep, hands-on proficiency in modern deep learning, including large language models and end-to-end speech systems.
Significant experience with multimodal LLMs involving architecture design, training, adaptation, and deployment of integrated audio and text modalities.
Direct experience building speech-to-speech conversational systems and full-duplex natural interaction pipelines.
Proven track record of translating research into production-quality systems at scale.
Expert programming skills in Python and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Machine Learning, or a similar technical field is preferred.
