TL;DR · Lead Product Software Engineer, DevOps/Web Dev

The Lead Product Software Engineer (DevOps/Web Dev) joins the Product Engineering team to standardize web delivery across various consumer-facing brands. This full-stack role involves building and modernizing guest-facing web applications, managing backend services, and overseeing the delivery layer. You will work with React, TypeScript, and server-rendered delivery while managing APIs, identity integrations, and infrastructure components like DNS, Route 53, WAF, Varnish, and CloudFront. Key responsibilities include defining long-term technical strategies, leading legacy platform migrations, and establishing paved-path architecture patterns to reduce engineering friction. You will also define standards for AI-assisted engineering, including review gates and observability. The role requires expertise in HTTP, REST, GraphQL, and Amazon Web Services to ensure the performance, scalability, and resiliency of mission-critical cloud-based services across a diverse portfolio.

What you'll do

  • Build and own guest-facing web applications from the React frontend through backend APIs and identity integrations.
  • Define and execute a long-term technical strategy to standardize web stacks and improve reliability across all brand sites.
  • Lead the migration of legacy stacks onto current platforms while managing live traffic and preventing regressions.
  • Research and drive the adoption of paved-path architecture patterns and engineering standards across the organization.
  • Develop tooling, debugging interfaces, and automation to reduce engineering friction and increase shipping speed.
  • Establish standards and validation gates for AI-assisted engineering practices across the development teams.
  • Configure and manage edge delivery layers including DNS, Route 53, WAF, Varnish, and CloudFront.
  • Provide technical mentorship to senior engineers and conduct design reviews to ensure system integrity.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience as a software engineer or architect.
  • Production experience building guest-facing web applications using React, TypeScript, and server-side rendering.
  • Strong command of web architecture principles including HTTP, DNS, caching strategy, and REST or GraphQL APIs.
  • Hands-on experience developing and maintaining high-volume distributed services on Amazon Web Services.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a legacy platform migration or large-scale standardization effort to completion.
  • Ability to drive technical decisions beyond your own team and communicate complex tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Production configuration of Varnish, HAProxy, or CloudFront, including cache policy design (preferred).
