TL;DR · Lead Hardware Reliability Engineer

Lead Hardware Reliability Engineer (Starlink) As a Lead Hardware Reliability Engineer, you will lead a team of engineers and specialists focused on hardware reliability and field performance for the Starlink User Terminal Kit, including user terminals, Wi-Fi routers, power supplies, and cables. You will be responsible for developing reliability qualification strategies, managing technical investigations into fleet-wide issues, and overseeing production quality activities to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards. Your daily work involves designing environmental, mechanical, electrical, and RF testing, performing telemetry and log analysis, and automating data reporting using engineering tools. You will collaborate with manufacturing and supply chain teams to mitigate risks across the product lifecycle. The role addresses critical hardware failures and manufacturing inefficiencies to minimize customer downtime while ensuring high-volume production readiness for complex systems involving phased-array technology and Wi-Fi standards.

What you'll do

  • Lead and mentor a team of engineers focused on hardware reliability and field performance for Starlink products.
  • Develop and execute reliability qualification strategies for new and existing products to ensure readiness for mass production.
  • Design and execute environmental, mechanical, electrical, and RF testing to qualify changes in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Lead root cause investigations for production and field failures to identify failure mechanisms and drive corrective actions.
  • Automate reliability test execution, data analysis, and reporting using engineering tools to improve decision-making speed.
  • Monitor hardware performance metrics and telemetry to identify and mitigate long-term risks from material or process variability.
  • Oversee production quality activities including containment, defect processing, and compliance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Identify manufacturing inefficiencies and drive process improvements to increase first-pass yield and reduce scrap.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, materials, manufacturing, aerospace engineering, or another engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience executing complex engineering projects in design qualification, manufacturing, hardware reliability, or production environments.
  • 1+ years of experience in a leadership position leading a team of at least three engineers.
  • Experience developing and executing product qualification strategies and hardware reliability testing for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering principles, failure mechanisms, root cause investigation, and risk-based decision-making.
  • Proficiency in environmental, mechanical, electrical, and RF system-level test methods for PCBAs and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience with quality management systems such as ISO 9001 or AS9100.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
