Lead Data Specialist will join the Power & Energy segment team to define and guide the data vision, structure, and standards in partnership with the Lead Data Engineer. This role is responsible for designing the blueprint of the data ecosystem by mapping current-state landscapes, defining future-state architecture roadmaps, and establishing principles for scalable, governed systems. The individual will build conceptual, logical, and physical data models while ensuring consistent application of dimensional and data vault techniques. Key responsibilities include overseeing end-to-end solution designs from ingestion to consumption and enforcing enterprise standards for metadata management and data quality. Required skills include expertise in data warehousing, information architecture, and programming languages like Python or Java. The role addresses the challenge of modernizing large-scale data systems and managing complex digital transformation programs within the power and energy business domain.
Map the current-state data landscape to identify systems, flows, redundancies, and gaps for critical business initiatives.
Define and maintain a future-state data architecture vision and roadmap aligned with corporate strategy.
Build and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models using industry-standard techniques like dimensional or data vault.
Partner with the Lead Data Engineer to translate architectural designs into implementable technical solutions.
Oversee end-to-end data solution designs to ensure performance, scalability, and alignment with enterprise standards.
Enforce data governance policies, including metadata management, data quality, lineage, and security requirements.
Act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders to translate their needs into technical data requirements.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
Progressive experience in data, analytics, information architecture, or enterprise technology roles.
Experience leading enterprise-scale data architecture initiatives across multiple business domains.
Deep expertise in enterprise data architecture, data warehousing principles, and conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling.
Proven experience defining and implementing enterprise data strategies, roadmaps, standards, and governance frameworks.
Experience partnering with executive leadership and stakeholders to translate business strategy into data architecture solutions.
Knowledge of Caterpillar's Power & Energy business (preferred).
Experience managing a team of data engineers, proficiency in at least one programming language, and success leading large-scale modernization or cloud migration programs (preferred).
