The IT Security Specialist II joins the UHealth IT Department to manage end-user and technical security training while providing critical support for the CISO office. This role involves performing vulnerability scans, assessing risks, and managing remediation efforts from start to finish. The specialist will collect and analyze threat intelligence reports, develop standard operating procedures based on CISA advisories and vendor disclosures, and support incident response processes. Key responsibilities include tracking cyber-threats, producing actionable intelligence for business resilience, and providing expertise on attacks targeting the healthcare industry. Candidates must possess skills in technical writing, data analysis, and problem-solving. The role requires experience with vulnerability management tools such as Qualys, Tenable, or Rapid7 to protect university assets and ensure compliance with PCI-DSS standards while maintaining high security standards for web applications and databases.
Manage the end-to-end vulnerability management lifecycle, including scanning, risk assessment, and remediation.
Collect and analyze threat intelligence reports to identify emerging risks and actionable indicators of compromise.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures for monitoring vulnerabilities and security advisories.
Provide technical guidance on identifying and remediating system and application vulnerabilities.
Support the incident response process from initial detection through final resolution.
Produce comprehensive reports on assessment findings and propose improvements for system security.
Deliver threat intelligence to content creators and stakeholders to improve proactive hunting and prevention.
Provide expert knowledge on recent attacks targeting healthcare systems, web applications, and databases.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
A master's degree is highly desirable.
5-7+ years of progressive cybersecurity experience.
3+ years of experience specifically in threat and vulnerability management, threat intelligence, incident response, digital forensics, malware analysis, or threat hunting.
In-depth experience managing vulnerability management tools such as Qualys, Tenable, or Rapid7.
Preferred certifications include CompTIA CySA+, CISSP, CISM, Cloud Computing Security, or GCIH.
Excellent technical writing and communication skills to draft reports and provide training.
Ability to analyze business processes from a control and operational perspective.
