HPC Systems Engineer, Modeling & Simulation will join the Lethality Modeling & Simulation team to support high-consequence engineering decisions through advanced modeling, simulation, and scientific computing. This role involves managing on-premise HPC systems, maintaining scientific code environments, and overseeing storage and runtime workflows for complex workloads involving warhead effects, shock physics, and detonation physics. The engineer will troubleshoot Linux, Unix, and Windows infrastructure while building scripts and automation tools to improve analyst productivity. Key technologies include Bash, Python, CMake, MPI/OpenMPI, OpenMP, and Slurm. Candidates must navigate specialized engineering environments involving hydrocodes, solid mechanics codes, and data movement across various filesystems. The role addresses the technical challenge of ensuring reliable, repeatable execution of scientific code in secure environments to support mission-critical analysis for defense applications including classified computing readiness.
Administer and support on-premise HPC systems for lethality modeling and simulation workflows.
Maintain, install, and troubleshoot scientific codes and runtime environments.
Diagnose issues across compute nodes, operating systems, storage, and user workflows.
Manage storage infrastructure and data movement requirements for simulation outputs.
Develop scripts and automation tools to improve analyst productivity and reduce manual friction.
Support Linux, Unix, and Windows administration within a specialized engineering computing environment.

What we're looking for
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Computational Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Scientific Computing, or a related technical discipline.
5+ years of experience administering Linux/Unix systems in HPC, scientific computing, research computing, defense, aerospace, or national lab environments.
Hands-on experience supporting compute clusters, scientific codes, engineering software, or modeling and simulation workflows.
Proficiency in Bash and/or Python scripting for automation, troubleshooting, and workflow support.
Experience with scientific tools such as CTH, ALE3D, Sierra, ParaView, Cubit, VisIt, hydrocodes, solid mechanics codes, or similar simulation tools.
Experience with scientific software build/runtime environments including CMake, compilers, MPI/OpenMPI, OpenMP, and environment modules.
Working knowledge of storage, filesystems, networking, and secure computing practices like NFS/NAS and TCP/IP.
Must be a U.S. Person capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. security clearance for export-controlled information.
