The HPC Architect joins the Scientific and Cloud Computing team to provide technical leadership for scientific and R&D computing environments. This role involves architecting and evolving on-premises, cloud, and hybrid HPC platforms, including compute, GPU, networking, storage, and workload management. The architect will design, implement, and support infrastructure while managing the lifecycle of scientific software services. Key responsibilities include optimizing Slurm workload management, establishing reproducible container environments using Apptainer and Docker, and integrating analytics platforms like Posit Workbench. Required expertise includes Linux, NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, MPI, InfiniBand, and distributed storage systems like Weka or Lustre. The role solves complex technical problems in pharmaceutical research by providing secure, scalable, and cost-effective high-performance computing solutions for diverse research workloads within a regulated enterprise IT environment.
Architect and evolve on-premises, cloud, and hybrid HPC platforms for scientific and R&D computing.
Design and support HPC compute, networking, and storage infrastructure.
Administer and optimize Slurm workload management, including GPU scheduling and performance tuning.
Establish secure, reproducible container and scientific software environments using Apptainer and Docker.
Support Posit Workbench and related analytics platforms integrated with Slurm and GPUs.

What we're looking for
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field with 7 years of experience; OR Master’s Degree with 6 years of experience; OR PhD with 2 years of experience.
Experience in application program development for the required number of years.
Leadership experience to guide, collaborate with, and influence technical teams and stakeholders.
Expert knowledge of Linux, HPC compute and GPU architectures, MPI, NVIDIA GPUs, CUDA, and hardware lifecycle management.
Strong experience with Slurm workload management, including scheduling, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
Strong knowledge of HPC networking, including InfiniBand, RDMA, Ethernet, VLANs, and low-latency communications.
Experience with high-performance distributed storage, including Weka, Lustre, NFS, and data movement.
Experience with Apptainer/Singularity, Docker, cloud/hybrid HPC solutions, infrastructure as code, and DevOps practices.
Experience supporting interactive research platforms like Posit Workbench, Posit Connect, or Jupyter.
Experience in Data Science, Life Sciences, or Pharmaceutical industry environments.
Work experience in the pharmaceutical industry (preferred).
